Physics 272: Advanced Honors Physics II
Spring 2018

In 2017-2018, the introductory physics course sequence was reworked so that Physics 271-272 is a COMPLETELY DIFFERENT COURSE from past years.
What this means for Physics 272 in Spring 2018:
The prerequisite for Physics 272 is the fall 2017 Physics 271; multivariable calculus (Math 251) is a co-requisite. If you have registered for Physics 272 without taking Physics 271 in fall 2017, you need to make sure you are ready to take a course at the highly intensive level of the reworked Physics 272. This is especially true for students who took Physics 271 in fall 2016 or earlier.
Physics 272 will continue at the level of the current Physics 271, with a focus on learning to solve complex and challenging problems using a significant amount of mathematics and developing an understanding of the physics.

The textbook:
Electricity and Magnetism 3rd Edition, by Edward M. Purcell and David J. Morin
Homework will be due in class on Mondays. The first homework will be due the first Monday of the semester, January 23.
Each week, several "warm-up" problems will be assigned and should be worked before recitation.
The first recitation will be the first week of classes: Thursday January 18 and Friday January 19. No warm-up problems for the first recitation.

HW1: due in class Monday, January 22
